I define pedagogy as teaching methodology adopted to learn a lesson effectively. The objective of teaching is to trigger thinking. Albert Einstein – Imagination is greater than intelligence. Thinking is the basic element of decision-making process. Thinking develops ability to imagine and eventually develop vision. Thinking helps in deciding the approach of tackling a situation creatively.

Every person is capable of learning everything, but is it necessary to learn everything? Aptitude helps in specialization. Specialization in a topic defines the scope of study, which in turn allows to indulge into greater depths of the subject. This is research. Today’s research is tomorrow’s knowledge, there is no last word. Challenging the existing beliefs will lead to innovation. A guide’s role is to decide if the person needs to re-invent the wheel depending upon relevance of the topic and aptitude.

A teacher can motivate learning by involving the students in the teaching-learning process. Self-study, in the first place needs to be taught by showing how to read a paper and how to design an experiment with examples. This can be further manifested through tools like project/problem-based assignments, seminar, group discussion etc. A teacher’s role is indispensable, as the teacher has to design bespoke lessons so as to bridge the gap between what is taught and was is learnt. When a teacher informs students about a topic, the student not only learns professional skills but also subconsciously gains soft and life skills to survive in long run. Information is available on various medium, but it’s the teacher who demonstrates integration of knowledge and its application. Wisdom lies in intelligence of knowing how to study and apply.
